Rob's secret 50
Venture's Rob Hughes paid a visit to Abbey Lakes in France recently and came away with his first ever 50 (although he's already had a 60 and a 70!) He was being very selective with who could have the pictures but we managed to track one down eventually!! A great-looking fish and a fine end to the year for Rob.

Cassien result for Gary Hillson
Well-known Cassien legend Gary Hillson was once again in action down at the southern-French venue towards the end of 2008. Starting off in the West Arm he soon found some fish and landed seven in quick succession up to 24kg (53lb). When the runs started to dry up he moved to the South Arm and once again started to catch. He ended up with around 20 fish with a further three going over 20kg. All of Gary's fish were landed on the Venture VXR-1 rods and weighed in the Recovery Sling.

Third 30kg fish of the year is new PB common for Briggsy
Steve Briggs continued his run of big fish during 2008 to record his third carp over the 30kg mark this year. Steve was fishing out of the famous swim 19 at Rainbow Lake and had already accounted for one mirror of 47lb 12oz and commons of 29lb, 37lb 12oz, 47lb 12oz and 50lb 8oz. But at 2am on the Saturday morning, just hours before packing up, Steve latched in to the biggest fish of the week. The fish fought hard for some time before Joan had the fish safely netted. Once in the Recovery Sling the fish was weighed in at 67lb 12oz (30.7kg) - a personal best common for Steve by a margin of 12lb 2oz!
The big common picked up a single 20mm Solar Club Mix boily attached to a size 2 Solar Stronghold hook over a scattering of 18mm Club Mix boilies, along with a mixture of Solar Dairy Cream 365 Pellets and Super Combi-Mix particles from The Bait and Feed Company. Once again the Venture VXR-1 rods were responsible for landing all of the fish.

Big fish for Croatian team
Venture's team out in Croatia, Kris Kuri and Denis Belavic were amongst the big fish during a recent session at Sumbar Lake. They landed no less than thirty three carp over 10kg and four over 20kg. Denis landed the lakes largest resident 'Glad' at 23.75kg but also lost the second biggest fish right at the net! Kris also got amongst the big fish with a 21kg mirror. The fish moved to the deeper water when the temperature dropped and the rain fell heavily, but the Lowrider bivvies ensured that they stayed dry and comfortable. The pair used around 90kg of bait for the week.

Mark and Meik's river result
Mark Bergman and Meik Pyka have been making the most of their time recently by concentrating their efforts on the River Weser in Germany. Although they could only manage overnight trips due to work commitments, the duo have racked up a string of good captures from the difficult venue. Mark's best so far is a 21kg common, while Meik managed to bag himself an impressive 25.6kg mirror. They pointed out that the Razorback Shelters made quick overnight sessions far easier than with 'normal' bivvies and the Mosquito Shrouds kept the insects at bay.

The Vapourskin has arrived!
With autumn upon us the good news from Venture is that the Vapourskin is now in stock! The Vapourskin has been designed as a light over-wrap for the Razorback shelter and bivvy system, immediately turning the Razorback in to a twin-skinned bivvy to protect you more from those damp nights and chilly conditions. In keeping with the Razorback system, the Vapourskin is very light and very easy to fit, only needing to be clipped in to place before pegging out. The Vapourskin is available for just £74.99 from most Venture outlets.

Steve lands two 50's in 12 hours!
Venture's Steve Briggs recently spent a week on the Badgers Holt lake at Serreire in France where despite the fish having recently spawned and constant rain throughout the trip, he ended up with some good results. During the seven days Steve landed a total of thirteen carp with all but two of them weighing over 30lbs. The highlight of the week though, was when he banked two fish over 50lb in the space of 12 hours. All the fish were landed using Venture VXR-1 rods along with basic semi-fixed rigs with 20mm Solar Club Mix hook baits and smaller Club Mix freebies and Solar pellets.

Nutsey Charity Challenge - a big success!
The Nutsey Charity Challenge, organised by Paul and Mandy Hunt, took place over the 18th and 19th July at Nutsey Lake in Hampshire. Venture's Steve Briggs and Solar's Martin Locke were in attendance and both companies provided gear for the fund-raising raffle. The weekend was a huge success with plenty of people turning up and parting with their cash. A total of £1600 was raised for the Piam Brown childrens ward which relies on donations to keep their invaluable work going. A bigger event is planned for next year and details will be announced here nearer the time.

Meik's magic result at Cassien
Venture consultant, Meik Pyka has to be rated as one of the most successful Cassien anglers of all-time after yet another fantastic result at the southern-French lake. Meik found the West Arm too busy so opted for the South Arm and must be glad that he did! Meik told us: "To cut a long story short I had the session of a lifetime and I topped both my common and mirror PB's! In nine days I banked no less than seven carp between 15kg and 19kg, mirrors of 20kg, 22kg and 23.3kg, the big Chardonnay Common at 26kg and the monstrous big mirror, Bernadette at 30.2kg!" Another fantastic result for the very-consistent big-fish man from Germany.

A great week for the Croatian Venture team
July saw Croatian angler Kresimir Kuri travel to Sumbar Lake with his wife Maria, nine-month-old son Ivan and good-friend Denis. Although the air and water temperatures were very hot, the Venture quartet were always able to find feeding fish! In all they landed 58 carp between 3kg and 22kg. Kresimir commented that in total they used 85kg of bait which had to be put out with either catapult or bait rockets and it took him almost a week to recover - but the result made it more than worthwhile.

Cassien 2-Man bivvy review on Cemex forum
At Venture we always take a very keen interest in any feedback that comes our way on products and whilst flicking through the forums we came across a review on the Cassien 2-Man bivvy on the Cemex Angling forum. It's a very honest and un-biased review, so for anyone thinking about purchasing a big bivvy in the near future, why not have a look at the 'latest articles and catch reports' page at: www.cemexangling.co.uk and have a read for yourselves.

Two PB's in a week for Steve Briggs
After losing a very good fish at the net at the start of his latest trip to Rainbow Lake, Venture's Steve Briggs thought he was in for a bad week, but he turned things around by landing two massive personal best mirrors. The first came on Sunday afternoon just three hours after losing the first fish and weighed in at 68lb 8oz. Things were then a little quiet until Thursday 5th June when at 5am Steve latched in to an even bigger fish of 70lb 8oz! These were followed by other mirrors of 31lb, 41lb 4oz, 47lb 4oz and 49lb 10oz. All the fish were caught by using double 18mm Solar Club Mix hook baits attached to size 4 Solar Stronghold long shank hooks and they were landed on Venture VXR-1 rods.

Personal milestone for Crowy
This 30lb 4oz mirror known as Clarence was landed by Venture's Simon Crow during a day's surface fishing at the Selby syndicate in North Yorkshire, England. The long mirror - one of the original Three Lakes fish - is Crowy's first UK thirty off the top, beating his previous UK best of 28lb from Motorway Pond. Here's what he told us: "Although I've landed bigger off the top from overseas, I've wanted a thirty off the top from a home water. I spent four hours patiently feeding the fish up, selecting the biggest of the bunch when it moved in. It fought really well, taking me twenty minutes to land, mostly under the rod tip." Crowy put his faith in an artificial tiger nut soaked in Solar's Dairy Cream and fished to open water at twenty yards range where he baited with Chum Mixer dog biscuits. Hookbaits were offered on size 4 Solar X-Wide Gape hooks and 15lb main line.
