| Murphy's magic for Briggsy |
|
Venture's Steve Briggs was in action again just recently when he spent seven days down at Murphy's Lake in the south of France. It was Steve's first time at the venue and he was most impressed by what he found there. It wasn't easy fishing and nothing happened for the first couple of days, but once he sussed out the right way to fish the lake, the action started to come. The key was to use very slack lines with long, seven metre lengths of lead core. Another big factor was using Solar Quench boilies which the fish seemed to really favour.
After catching a few nice fish, including mirrors of 37lb, 40lb 4oz and 41lb, he then latched in to a cracking mirror of 54lb 8oz on the Wednesday afternoon. More fish followed but the weather turned wintery very quickly and heavy frosts slowed the fish up a little. But on the final morning a flurry of action brought three more fish to the bank, including another big mirror of 50lb 4oz. The fish were all landed on either the Venturis V1's or the VXR-1 rods and of course the Recovery Sling was a great help for weighing the fish and returning them in top condition. Steve commented "It was a great first-time trip to Murphy's Lake and I'll be going back there for sure, but it really turned cold quick and I was so grateful to be set up in the Cassien bivvy which gave us great protection from the worst of the elements." |

| Another world record on Venture rods! |
|
Here at Venture we know how good our rods are, but it seems that everyone out there is starting to realise that too! How good are Venture rods? Well, good enough to land the world record mirror AND the world record common!
It all started when Graham Slaughter caught his huge mirror carp from Rainbow Lake weighing 88lb 6oz on the VXR-2. Now over in Germany Nermin Caro has landed the biggest common ever, the magnificent fish called Mary at a weight of 86lb 6oz. This time it was a Venturis V2 13 feet 3.25lbs t.c. which was responsible. Congratulations go out to Nermin from everyone here at Venture. Once again it proves that the people out there doing the serious business are putting their faith in Venture gear. Venture rods aren't just good............they're world record breakers! |

| Rainbow rampage for Briggsy!! |
|
Venture's Steve Briggs has had some memorable sessions at Rainbow Lake in the past but nothing compared to his most recent trip to the record-breaking lake! Fishing for the first time out of the Island swim, in fourteen days Steve accounted for no less than 59 carp, topped by a mirror of 64lb 8oz but also including a further eight 50's up to 59lb 2oz and another nine 40's up to 49lb 4oz.
Commenting on the session Steve said: "It was just incredible action from start to finish. I had between five and seven runs every day of the fourteen days and once the big fish arrived I managed to catch carp over 50lb for seven days on the trot! The last of the big fish, a 57lb common, was actually my 50th carp over the 50lb mark so that made the whole experience even more special. It was just mind-blowing and I'm still worn out three days after getting home!"
All of Steve's fish fell to the ever-faithful Solar Club Mix boilies in 18mm. Hook baits were fished snowman-style with an 18mm Club Mix boily and a 14mm Quench pop up. Hooks were size 4 Solar Stronghold Longshanks with Aquaborne Snag Cord hook lengths and sinking braid. The Rainbow 10oz and 12oz leads were fished on Solar lead release clips. Rods were of course the Venture VXR-1's. |

| Ade rates the VXR-2's!! |
|
| Adrian Fauntley recently spent a week out in France at Cherpont Lake where he bagged sixteen fish topped by a cracking mirror of 44lb 8oz. Besides being more than happy with a great result like that, what he came back raving about were the VXR-2 rods which he caught all the fish on: "The VXR range of rods are an absolute dream and will come in to play for all my English fishing now too! I was a little bit sceptical at first that they might be too stiff for me but they bent in all the right places and easily coped with the lunges of the fish under the rod tips. I really would recommend the VXR-2's for anyone who needs a rod with a bit of 'grunt' to get those extra distances but also needs a rod for close range work." |

| A great return for Kris Kuri |
|
Out in Croatia Kris Kuri had been having quite a break from fishing due to work and family commitments, but after ten months he finally found himself with a free week and certainly made up for lost time with a session to remember down at his favourite Shumbar Lake.
Kris went to the lake with his wife and children, along with his good friend Denis 'the bandit'. Between them they managed 35 carp, 27 of which were over 10kg, with 3 over 20kg! Kris managed not one, but two new personal bests in the shape of a 21.8kg common and a lake record mirror of 26kg. |

| New surface-caught PB for Briggsy! |
|
| Steve Briggs has been having a good year so far but things improved recently when he landed a new surface-caught personal best of 33lb 8oz. Steve was down at Sandwich in Kent, visiting a local tackle shop with some of the Venture team and afterwards they all dropped in for a 20 hour session at Cottington Lakes. Steve got off the mark with a 16lb common, before landing a 25lb scaly mirror on the bottom, but after firing some floaters out the carp responded quickly and he was soon in to the big linear, closely followed by another mirror of 23lb. All of the other guys caught too, with Brett landing a 30lb 8oz mirror and Dave Watson a 22lb mirror. Steve's fish were all caught on Solar Quench pop us fished either on the bottom or the surface and the Venture V-1 rods landed all the fish from the weedy swim. Steve said: "I'd never heard of Cottington Lakes before this, but I'll certainly be going back there soon, the fish and the venue were just fantastic!" |

| Another English forty for Crowy! |
|
| Venture's Simon Crow has once again found success, this time using our V-1 rods. Last week Crowy fished the famous Chad Lakes' Home Pool, where he netted five fish in five days of fishing, topped by this lovely 42lb 10oz mirror known as The Red One - his second UK forty of 2009. Commenting on his catch, Crowy revealed: "This lake is lovely, a small intricate venue which reminds me very much of Redmire. A lot of the fishing is very close-quarter stuff so you need a rod which you know has plenty of play in it. The V-1 performed brilliantly every time. I backed up the biggie with a 28lb common and a couple of mid-20 mirrors, plus a double. The weather was red hot during most of the week, however one day it absolutely chucked it down all morning during a heavy storm and I'm pleased to say that the new shelter which I'm field testing (watch this space for more news) performed brilliantly. |

| Rainbow result for Briggsy |
|
| Steve Briggs spent two weeks down at Rainbow Lake in France recently to record a very good result in tough conditions. In general it was fishing slow but Steve decided that baiting more heavily was the way to get the fish motivated in to feeding and he set about building up four areas with 18mm Club Mix boilies and Red Herring Pellets from Solar. It started to work from the first day onwards and he landed a procession of good commons and mirrors. By the end he had accounted for twenty carp with nine over 40lb with the best common going 57lb 12oz and the best mirror 53lb 2oz. Quality braid and mono leaders from Aquaborne, along with Solar size 4 Strong Hold hooks helped in the hit-and-hold situations, while the ever-reliable Venture VXR-1 rods coped with the hard-fighting fish without any problems. Steve said "The swims either side of me only produced six fish between them in two weeks so to catch almost every day shows I got the tactics right this time." |

| Steve Briggs' book ready for August release |
|
| It's been a long time coming but Steve Briggs has finally completed his first book! 'Cassien and Beyond' is due for release at the beginning of August and is the culmination of over a year of hard work, but the end result has been well worth waiting for. As the title suggests, Cassien and Beyond concentrates on Steve's numerous trips to Cassien over the years, but also includes chapters on Romania, Africa, the Fishabil WCC as well as the Colne Valley. Steve commented: "It's been a long journey and a lot of hard work, but I'm really proud of how it has all turned out." The book is being published by Freebird Publishing and any advanced orders can be made by contacting them at: www.freebirdpublishing.co.uk Alternatively why not come and see Steve personally at one of his book-signing days at The Tackle Box in Kent, Tackle Tarts in Ashford, Middlesex and North West CarpFishing up in the north, dates will be anounced nearer to the time. |

| Up close and personal with the VXR-2 |
|
| Venture's Simon Crow tempted this old warrior 30lb 8oz mirror known as Delilah from his favourite day ticket lake, Orchid Venture lakes in Oxfordshire. The 38 year-old landed the fish along with another named Bruno which weighed 27lb during a mornings stalking, also tempting two 20's during a 72 hour trip. He used a Mixer soaked in Solar's Dairy Cream to tempt the bigger fish, offering his hookbait on a size 6 Solar X-Wide Gape hook. He revealed: "Both fish were well spawned out, Delilah normally being a mid-30 and one that I've wanted to catch for a while. Bruno is also normally a 30. I watched them for over an hour, feeding them Mixers little and often, when the moment was right, I hooked them both within seconds of the hookbait touching the surface, selecting the better ones from the half a dozen or so which were feeding." Crowy tackled the fish using a Venture VXR-2 rod, commenting how well it performed at such close quarters. |

| Worlds biggest carp in the Venture Recovery Sling. |
|
| At Venture we always take pride in the fact that our products are not only good for anglers - but for the fish too! So we were very pleased to hear the news that Rob Hales had banked what is now the worlds largest carp in the shape of a huge mirror weighing 90lb 4oz (40.93kg) from Rainbow Lake!!! After the fish was returned Rob was quick to point out that the Recovery Sling was instrumental in the safe handling and return of the great fish. In his own words: "It shows that the Recovery Sling can handle any carp in the world today. Fish care is so important to me and the sling really does help in that department, I really think every angler should use one of them." Congratulations go out to Rob from everyone here at Venture - a truly fantastic result!! |
